hahahah

Just one last thing--

Rotten Tomatoes just tweeted "Aaaaa! Run from Christian Bale's scary beard!!!!"

hahahahaaaa

okay goodnight for real everyone :)

Let the games begin..

Soo, the red carpet is wrapping up and we've seen some phenomenal styles.  There's honestly been nothing I've gawked at (then again, I couldn't physically SEE Helena Bonham Carter's crazy outfit because the black doesn't come through on the camera).  I'd say it's been a success tonight, so I'll be putting the laptop down as the stars take their seats.  On a final note:

Best dressed (hands down) goes to Mila Kunis in Elie Saab.  She wore it perfectly.

Goodnight everyone, enjoy the show -- what a great year it's been for film and fashion!

Recap

As the stars head inside for the big show, a moment to reflect on what came down the red carpet:

Favorites - Mila Kunis, Cate Blanchet, Jennifer Lawrence, and Anne Hathaway

Notable - Mandy Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow

What were they thinking - Nicole Kidman, Helena Bonham Carter (I'll never be a fan)

Can't wait for the awards!

FINALLY

Natalie Portman! FANTASTIC color, that purple  is wonderful on this soon-to-be mommy.  I'm not sure what I think about the tassle earrings, but I'm leaning toward love, especially since there's nothing on the neck as far as bling goes.  She managed to keep it simple and chic, and the makeup is glowing.  She definitely didn't let us down.

There she is!

Natalie Portman looking incredible. I love the cut of her dress with very pregnant belly. (It's Rodarte, a favorite of hers.) Although the color doesn't necessarily pop against the red carpet, I love it, as well as the sequined details. Classically beautiful, and bubbly as always.
Robert Downey Jr. is looking original with a navy suit with a white shirt AND tie.  Something I haven't seen before in the men's department. Well done, sir ;)

Anne Hathaway

So Stunning - perfect dress for a presenter! The red lips is a great add on. The back of the dress is were originality comes in..... flowers detailed through the bottom half. The diamond necklace is simple but elegant. Anne always does right on the red carpet!

Valentino :)

Valentino is on the runway! Anne Hathaway is wearing his signature red gown and looks stunning in it! I love the delicate diamond jewelry and the side-swept bun.

pppplease

We just switched the channel to abc -- Are we about to find out who Matthew Mcconaughey's wife is wearing? NOBODY ASKED. I'm dying to know!

Another Moment

I love Sandy. This structured Vera Wang number fits her figure so well. I love that her hair is up and polished, a definite upgrade from those long bangs and flat 'do she sported not too long ago. So hot right now.

Gwen

Gwyneth Paltrow looks great in sleek and structured Calvin Klein.  This look is veering off the soft feminine trends we're seeing this season, but she's styled it well and wears it perfectly..  Lots of metallics on the red carpet tonight - I approve!

Only 25 minutes until the show starts!

Another Calvin Klein

His minimalist designs for Spring 2011 have been popular at every awards show. We saw two very different looks on Jennifer Lawrence and Gwyneth Paltrow tonight, and I'm a fan of both. Can't wait to see Gwen perform!

Hottest couple

Matthew Macconaughey and his beautiful wife

Shes wearing a DEEP v-neck black satin gown....Ryan didn't ask who she was wearing! why!?

Nicole Kidman

Not excited about this one - the diamond chocker is a little age inappropriate and the dress has too much detail on the front. It's almost reminds me of origami??

Reese

Reese Witherspoon looks super classy, channeling straight black and white, and the pony-tail to top it off, how adorable!

Burly

Christian Bale needs to shave the beard he looks scary.. and the cave man look doesn't play well with the full black suit.

Javier Bardem

One of the first men not wearing bow tie tonight!

Javier Bardem

He's almost charming me out of the horror I associate with his role in "No Country for Old Men." Maybe I should see "Biutiful." Where did Penelope go?

Sandra Bullock

Sandra looks amazing! Love the floor length red gown on her - can't wait to see the details close up. She just keeps looking younger and younger.

questionable

I just saw the bottom half of Hilary Swank's dress -- not in love with the feathers.. thoughts?
Hilary Swank is so bubbly, I can't help but smile.
And and she looks great, the hair clip is a fine touch on a glamorous and still modern look.

Helene Bonham Carter...

Is she wearing a bustle? Is that what's going on here?

Helena Bonman Carter

ohhhh Helena.....she's always so crazy

Her hair looks like it may have dreadlocks in it, but with that being said... the dress is pretty good for her! black velvet dress, which was made by one of her favorite costume designers. Not sure how I feel about this one.

Marisa Tomei

Love it from the waist up - such pretty statement earrings! I've never been a fan of the fishtail... anyone?

Justin's Mommy?

Is that Justin Timberlake's mom standing behind him... while he's being interviewed... and he's not introducing her?.. a little awkward Justin..

He also sounds a little like a princess -- he can't eat or breathe in the Tom Ford suit apparently fit specially for him.

Justin Timberlake

Justin brings sexy back once again in a Tom Ford suit. The black suit fits him like a glove because it was custom made by Tom Ford himself.

Scar Jo

Scarlett Johansson channels the 'sexy' to her open back tonight, wearing floor-length rich burgundy lace.  Well done, but the hair does look a little rolled-around-in -- I know I'm a fan of the au-natural, but in this case I'd clean it up.

As always...

Scarlett Johansson looking gorgeous in an open-backed gown with lace overlay (was that Dolce & Gabbana?). Open backs have been popular this award show season, and I love keyhole approach, as well as the color (appears to be an aubergine) of this dress. I agree with Kelly Osborne's commentary - I appreciate her deviation from her typical polished look. She's a beautiful woman, and her unkempt hair and smokey eye are a successful experimentation.

Scarlett Johansson

Not a huge fan of her maroon dress. The open lace back is beautiful, but the dress is just a little too simple. straight, one color.... she looks like she just wearing a rectangle. boring.

** Dolce and Gabbana!

In love...

My love for Cate Blanchett has blossomed ever since "Benjamin Button." Her gown (predicted by Kelly Osborne to be Givenchy) is absolutely a work of art. I hope we get a closer look!
Now, I love Jennifer Hudson, but there is way too much going on in her hair tonight, and the dress isn't doing much for her chest.  The color is great on her skin tone, though, so I'll give her credit there.

Lavender is hot tonight

Cate Blanchett looks stunning - it's truly a work of art. The bob hair was a great choice. No word on who the designer is though. Kelly Osbourne made a guess - anyone catch it?
Geoffrey Rush is claiming his bow tie is a clip-on. Yea right.. love that classy man.

Having A Moment

I still can't get over Jennifer Hudson's svelte new figure. This isn't my favorite of her most recent looks, although the color of her dress is a great pop of color ("tangerine orange") - everything has seemed pretty subdued thus far. Her hair and teardrop earrings are a bit promy, but forgivable. She is glowing! Obviously having a great time... definitely having a fashion moment.

Mandy Moore

I love love love the way Mandy Moore's Monique Lhuillier gown.  The mesh neckline and sleeves give the illusion that this glitter has been dusted straight onto her skin (which is smooooth as porcelain).

The only thing about this look that I'm not sure about it the hair; it is elegant as always, but a little too tied up for my taste and the softened trend this season.

Unexpected

Where has Mandy Moore been all these years? Wasn't expecting to see her tonight. Nevertheless, Monique Lhuillier was a perfect choice. Mandy Moore is a class act, looking beautiful and refined as always.

Geoffrey Rush

I'm actually really liking Geoffrey Rush's new hair - a bald head looks pretty good on him!

I hope he's not actually wearing a clip on bow tie....
I'm not entirely sold on Amy Adam's choices this time around.. sad because I usually love her looks.    I like the sequins, but the navy is too much for her fair skin in my opinion, and the high neckline definitely didn't need anything, but she added a necklace..

Fiesty

Amy Adams tells Seacrest that it wasn't that difficult for her to work up the fiestyness required for her role in The Fighter. I find that very hard to believe. I love her high-necked sequined gown and Cartier jewels, but I'm not as crazy about her hair and makeup. Although she's not the favorite, I'm rooting for her for Best Supporting Actress.

Michelle Williams

Michelle is looking flawless as always in Chanel -a smart choice for her. The pearl studded , short-sleeved dress makes her porcelain skin glow! Although it's incredibly similar to the other Chanel dress she wore back in May 2008 - maybe this was a little too safe of a choice, despite it's beauty.

pretty similar, right?

http://stylenews.peoplestylewatch.com/2008/05/23/the-scoop-on-michelle-williams-red-carpet-return-memorable-and-demure/
Hailee Steinfeld is 14 years young and she is OWNING that off-white embellished dress (I missed the designer, - anybody?)
She manages to keep it youthful with a simple thin headband and no earrings.
And the way this girl carries herself is so impressively professional and bright.  I hope we'll see her again real soon.

AAAND can I just gloat for a second? - Elie Saab on Mila Kunis - That is the exact dress from his collection I would have picked for her.

BEST OF THE NIGHT ALREADY

Mila Kunis looks amazing! Perfect! The lavender Elie Saab lace gown is the most amazing piece of art of the carpet tonight! Mila's hair had a soft curl to it with a bun loosely tied up on the side of head making her look like a 20's movie star.

Fantastic piece!

Disappointed

Hailee Steinfeld was a show-stopper at both the SAG Awards and Golden Globes. I just don't feel the same about her one-of-a-kind Marchesa gown. Marchesa tends to have an ethereal feel, but the styling (especially that headband) dumbed down the dress and made the overall look seem immature.

Hailee Steinfeld

True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld was just chatting with Ryan. Such a beautiful dress by Marchesa. Very classic and age appropriate choice for her! Although The head-band could be tossed out. She even helped design the dress! Amazing!

Armie Hammer

Social Network star Armie Hammer looks so handsome in his black suit with a crisp bow tie - which is so underrated all other times of the year except for the Oscars! They didn't say who he was wearing though!

Ooo la laa

YES I see Mila Kunis approaching in feminine lavender and it's making it difficult to concentrate on whatever Ryan Seacrest is talking about in the background.

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer's choice was a great one. The red Calvin Klein dress was perfect for her fair skin tone, but it was a little too simple. A great pair of earrings would have really helped her stand out a bit more.

The hot pink Oscar de la Renta dress she wore to the SAG awards so much more adventurous and sexy with its black bow tie belt
It's begun! Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone) just stopped to talk to Ryan about her Francisco Costa crimson gown.  The dress is so simple and body skimming and her hair is down and natural (a popular look at the SAG awards this year).  This is a great start to the red carpet show.

Jennifer Lawrence

Arrives looking gorgeous. Wearing a simple red dress from Calvin Klein Collection (a favorite this award show season). Styling is refined, accessories include a single bangle and a gold clutch. Her look is minimal, and sexy while remaining age appropriate. I love it!
The Oscars marks the culmination of a fabulous awards season, just stepping on the heels of New York fashion week. Here we are at the two-hour mark in the Pre-Show countdown, and predictions roll in as to who will be wearing who.  The spotlight this year is falling on Natalie Portman (and her pregnant belly), the stunning and sexy Mila Kunis, the bright, young taste of Hailee Steinfeld, and the mismatched and quirky Helena Bonham Carter.
While my roommate and I lounge in bed commenting on the styles, we'll be sporting leggings and t-shirts, lusting after the McQueen, Valentino, and Chanel floating down the red carpet. I'm praying to see some of (a personal favorite) Elie Saab's gorgeous and feminine spring 2011 collection.

Until then, we're watching E!'s coverage, and getting psyched for Anne Hathaway & James Franco to take the stage! --loveee them--

Pre-Pre-Show Predictions

Today is an all-day style watch in anticipation for tonight's red carpet, which seems like it's going to be a tough one to predict.

There were a lot of surprising color choices at the Golden Globes (other than Sofia Vergara in a body-con, lace-up number in her usual - red). We saw a lot of pink - Claire Danes and Emma Stone both in minimalist column dresses from Calvin Klein Collection. Natalie Portman threw off insiders, who had expected a design by Dior or Rodarte, and chose a pink Viktor & Rolf gown with beautiful red sequined rose embellishment, drawing attention to her baby bump. Green was another favorite, donned by Angelina Jolie and Mila Kunis. Other trends included unexpected embellishments (Julianne Moore's dress had a built-in necklace), and the back as the favorite erogenous zone (see Anne Hathaway's daring Armani Privé gown).

The red carpet at the SAG Awards was reflective of the Spring 2011 runway. Bold prints (see Hailee Steinfeld in Prada) and 70's inspired looks (Mila Kunis in Alexander McQueen and Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta) were favorited. Both January Jones (in Carolina Hererra) and Nicole Kidman (in Nina Ricci) chose floor-skimming gowns from the Pre-Fall 2011 runway.

With so many daring choices made recently, I am looking forward to seeing what Hollywood has in store for this evening. While there is expected buzz over what Best Actress Favorite Natalie Portman will choose to show off her very pregnant physique, I am especially excited to see those fresh young newcomers, who have been recognized for their excellent style. Hailee Steinfeld and Jennifer Lawrence both wowed fashion critics with their sophisticated and elegant style choices at recent events. With the recent haute couture shows, these ladies could definitely be pulling out the big guns.
